The increase in trade between Asia and Europe, as well as the rise in tariffs, has caused severe space limitations in air and sea transport, and consequently forced a large number of carriers to choose rail transport.
However, growing trade demand outside of Asia has created a rapidly worsening container shortage, and shipping companies are struggling to return such empty containers to China.
Carriers are reluctant to accept the soaring air freight rates between Asia and Europe, with most of the long-haul passenger fleet, which accounts for half of the available capacity on the route, still grounded.
And the unexpectedly high and sustained demand of the peak season in maritime trade is limiting container shipping space between Asia and Europe. As a result, European customers are finding it difficult to buy from China.

So how do we solve the global shortage of containers for imports?
In these circumstances, the China-Europe railway is key to solving the difficult problem of transporting goods for European customers.
The China-Europe railway project began in 2011 and has a 9-year history, with a total of 27 routes.
I can reach the cities of Duisburg (Germany), Lodz (Poland), Hamburg (Germany), Warsaw (Poland), Antwerp (Belgium), Madrid (Spain), Minsk (Belarus), Moscow (Russia).
For example: the furthest arrival, Madrid, Spain, passing through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, is a journey of 13,052 kilometers, and the travel time under normal conditions is about 21 days.
The train can also reach Antwerp (Belgium), the second largest container port in Europe, and the entire journey should take about 12 days.

The China-Europe railway is subsidized and heavily supported by the Chinese government, so freight rates are favorable and the number of routes continues to increase.
China Railway Express, the operator of the intercontinental network, reported operating more than 3,000 freight trains between China and Europe in the first nine months of the year, an 80 percent increase over the same period in 2019.

While the state-owned rail operator did not deliver a TEU equivalent (the cargo capacity of a standard 20-foot container), it reported that the volume of cargo shipped in the first 10 months was 2.31 million tons, a 50 percent increase over the tonnage transported during the same period last year.
Constant increase in lane volume
OOCL, which earlier this month formed a strategic partnership with China Railway Express, said in a statement that there was high demand for services along the rail corridor.
The carrier said rail space was being allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with a 14-day booking window until train departure on westbound routes and 10 days for eastbound trains.

The shopping season is underway, and the China-Europe railway is the most cost-effective logistics option right now.
To avoid queues and receive your products on time, it is best to make purchasing decisions quickly and reserve containers in advance.
